Happy Worpelston and The Pinebrook days
A surprise birthday party was planned for months for Worpelston member Lita. When the day arrived, Paul, Doug and I drove all the way down to the Thornton's house, where the party was to be. It was the first time all of Worpelston was together since last year. Lita was very surprised, and everyone agreed that it was a success altogether.
![]() Anna and Jon spent most of the time before Lita's arrival making dinner (delicious, by the way.) Anna is pictured making spinach chicken ravioli. |
![]() My fedora got quite a bit of use over the weekend. This is one of the Thornton's younger sisters wearing it. |
|
![]() And here it is being worn by Jared. Caryn looks happy, because she had just quit her job. I'm sure she is also happy for Lita's birthday. |
![]() Abigial Mallin, who has always hated me. Also Lita with some Fireworks. The Thornton and Mallin boys put on quite an impressive fireworks display for us, which was a lot of fun. |
|
![]() "The Posse," a group consisting of the women of Worpelston plus a friend named Rica, presented Lita with this beautiful violin (Yes, she does play violin). Worpelston, however, all chipped in to nag P.S. into coming up from South Carolina. (not really, he came of his own volition) Lita was every happy with both surprises, as you can see for yourself.
As my family was staying at Pinebrook in the Poconos for 2 weeks, I
visited a few times. During the second week, I was greeted by "The Old
Crowd," an ever-evolving group of friends who mostly sit around playing
mafia and mau. Most of the original members of the group are long
gone, and the group now consists of people much younger than me, but
sometimes old members will stop by for a visit, which is always alot of fun.
Another essential part of the group is nicknames, including such diverse
ones as: Kiwi, Crunchy, Duckworth, Bob the Accuser, Jack, Girlie Man, Fartly,
Tubwink, Blaster, Fishy, Squirt, Mumbles, Ed the Confessor, etc, etc. |

![]() I met up with some Barshinger girls in the snack shop. |
![]() Chris and Mike Evatt (from PUD) also stopped by for a visit one day. That's Elizabeth sitting next to Chris. |
|
![]() There was a shortage of seats this year in the guest services building, as you can see. |
![]() Bob the Accuser, who traditionally starts the first round of accusations when we play "Mafia." Yes, Bob is a girl. |
|
![]() Stephen can often be found in this position throughout the week. |
![]() Like I said, seating was a problem. That's Nate being crushed, incidentally. |
|
![]() We would usually whip out instruments after midnight. Guitars, Mandolins, Acoustic Basses, and Concertinas were the instruments of choice this year. We all joined in for rousing music, singing songs like "Wish You Were Here," "The Boxer" and "No, Nay Never." |
