For several years, Worpelston has talked about having a Worpelston
Thanksgiving. The idea has been tossed around and shot down so many
times that we all had begun to doubt whether it would actually ever take
place. However, this year all of those doubts can finally be laid to
rest. After a very long car ride, Paul, Rachel, Lita and I arrived at
PS's flat in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
PS made us some delicious stir fry, and we settled in to the place. |

One of PS's couches looked like it had been made from the shell of an enormous boiled lobster.
|
Here's another angle on the Lobster-hide couch.
By the way, many of the pictures taken here were with Paul's camera, and, as
a result, I am actually in some of them. It's weird, I know. |
|
![]() We spent that night (and, to be honest, a lot of the time we were there) watching various quality television. The classic "Fawlty Towers" is pictured here.
|
![]() We started preparations for the meal early Thursday morning. I made the Turkey and stuffing. PS made dessert. Lita (pictured) made gravy, vegetables and biscuts. Rachel made delicious sweet potatoes. And Paul cut a stick of butter in half and added it to the stuffing.

Eventually, dinner was served. We got dressed, and all that was left
was to eat it. And also for Lita to take a picture of us. |

PS broke out a box of his family tradition: Christmas Crackers.
They are hard to find here in the US, but since I think he got some the last
time he was in Wales. Basically, both people pull on the cracker, and
it opens up with a bang. Inside is a paper crown and a small toy.
Just like in RuneScape. Ugh I'm a geek. |
![]() Here are Paul and Lita. Her small toy was actually a top, but she stole PS's tiny shrill whistle. |
![]() Rachel and I with our crowns. Mine ripped as soon as it touched my enormous head, but I managed anyway.
|
|
![]() We spent the rest of the night relaxing in the living room, watching "Anne of Green Gables." |
![]()
I got too hot in PS's apartment that night,. so I open up the porch door.
As Black Friday dawned, we awoke to the sight of PS's naked, shivering body
huddled under a tiny blanket. So I took a picture. |
![]() Rachel looks good in MacDonald tartan, doesn't she?
|
![]() The girls went out to find some dresses for Dinner. The boys went out to find some shoes and shirts and whatnot. We eventually met at the mall, where this sweet jazz quartet was playing. |
![]() After a while, we headed back to the flat, and everyone got dressed. The girls looked absolutely stunning.
|
![]() And we didn't do too bad for ourselves, either. |

So out we went. We ate at a nice Italian place. Great food, good
wine and waitresses who didn't card. All in all, a rousing success. |
|
![]()
We even convinced our waitress to take a picture of us. Look how much
we rule. We could totally be the cast of some sitcom here. |
|
![]() With Rachel's birthday just a few days away, we decided to throw her a surprise party. PS made her a cheesecake (Chocolate chip, with pomegranite seeds on top). I gave her a copy of Pink Floyd's Meddle.
|
![]() Paul and I also got PS an early Christmas present: An acoustic guitar. Paul then proceeded to serenade us all night (and, indeed, the rest of the weekend). |
![]() We finished the weekend out by watching Love Actually, which is my absolute favorite Christmas movie. In fact, the girls (who had never seen it before) like it so much that we watched it twice in the same weekend. Anyway, I'm sure that many of you have secretly wondered what it looks like when I wear red long johns. Now you don't have to imagine anymore.

|
![]() ...and so it came to end. The First Thanksgivingston. May it be the first of many to come. |
